The 1980s

The Cadbury logo becomes consistent

Up until now the Cadbury logo tended to be small on product packaging and came in many different colours – whatever fitted with the particular product. It meant that sometimes people didn’t notice what brand they were buying.

In 1985 when Dominic Cadbury became Chief Executive of Cadbury Schweppes it was decided that the Cadbury name should only appear on products that involved chocolate or cocoa, and a consistent logo was designed to appear across all of them. Complete consistency on all elements of packaging design was achieved in 2003.

The ‘glass and a half’ visual appeared later, with the milk pouring the Cadbury signature on to a chocolate chunk.
